SKY TV – GHoPA Featured

July 2013 saw the GHoPA team of 7 coaches support a major live televised Sky event at Newcastle under Lyme (Cudmore Fisheries).

Get Hooked on Fishing (GHoF) www.ghof.uk.org is the UK based charity that uses the number 1 sport of fishing as a youth engagement tool. “Matchroom Sports” supremo Barry Hearn contacted GHoF on behalf of Sky to provide angling support throughout the 2 day event.

GHoPA represent the Humber region for the GHoF charity and Sarah Collins boss of GHoF asked GHoPA to provide “fun fair” themed activities for the visiting public.

Other GHoF projects from throughout the UK and over 70 volunteers provided lake based predator, cat, specimen and taster angling sessions to well over 700 visitors.

After a hugely successful but very tiring weekend all projects received a well-deserved pat on the back and message below from HH John Milford QC, our Chair of GHoF Trustees

“On behalf of the trustees of GHoF a huge word of thanks to all those who gave up their weekend to come and take part in GHoF’s contribution to Fish O’ Mania; that is to say to our own staff, those who work at the affiliated schemes and to the great army of volunteers who supplemented them.

It was a great achievement to have our work showcased at such a prestigious event and no one who attended could have left the event without having heard of this charity.

The TV coverage on Sunday was also immensely valuable. But most importantly, a number of young people left the show hooked on fishing and many who already were, will have left with their skills improved.

We cannot thank you all enough.
